Today’s Pastoral Message (4/8/2020)

Isaiah 50:4-9a; Psalm 70; Hebrews 12:1-3; John 13:21-32

I have heard Wednesday in Holy week referred to as Sly Wednesday because it is the day that Jesus is betrayed.  The religious leaders have had enough and are ready to move against Jesus. Judas, one of Jesus’ own disciples, conspires with them.  The wheels of betrayal and destruction are set in motion.

How would you or I have responded if we were there with Jesus in the midst of the many thoughts and concerns?  There can be different forces pulling at us.  Far too often, our own interests get in the way of God’s interests.

When faced with a question about what we are thinking of doing, here are a couple of questions to ponder:  1) Will the action I am about to take build up or tear down?  2) Will I be a blessing in Jesus’ name or betraying out of my own needs and instincts?  To be about the work of building up and being a blessing, the great passage of Hebrews 12:1-3 can help show the way.

Lord Jesus,

help me to fix my eyes on you.

Amen.
